These examples of my work are all from a public relations writing class I took at Iowa State University in Spring 2026.
Press Release
Creating this mock press release helped me practice the skills of identifying and communicating newsworthy information in the format of a traditional news release. Focusing on a practical, realistic scenario allowed me to find the newsworthiness and put that into words for a reporter to read and understand. This has come in handy in my current internship as I write about Iowa State issues and often send press releases to local news media.

Media List
As a current intern, I am often the one finding contacts in our media list and sending emails each time we have a new press release. Building a media list for this assignment allowed me to learn the strategic planning and research side of PR that I don’t always get to do at work. I’ve seen the value of media relationships firsthand and connections through working with communicators involved in our programming.

Fundamentals of Generative Engine Optimization Certification
I had the opportunity to receive a certification in generative engine optimization in my public relations writing class. I find these fundamentals helpful as I write online content for the website at my internship and focus on search engine optimization. It was interesting to learn about how GEO practices can take SEO to the next level.
